JAKARTA—Begun by Regent of East OKU, Herman Deru, several regents/mayors of the regional head of food producing throughout Indonesia declared Forum of Food Producing Region of all-Indonesia in Jakarta. The forum establishment facilitated by the House of Regional Representatives (DPD)

“Today, Thursday, February 18^th, 2010, we, regents/mayors head of food producing region agreed to form the Forum of Food Producing Region of all-Indonesia,” said Regent of Musi Banyuasin Pahri Azhari who read the declaration at the Crowne Plaza, Jakarta, Thursday (18/2). The forum is as a vehicle for coordination and consultation of food-producing local governments to maintain and improve national food security, including the anticipated food crisis.

The regents/mayors pressed the declaration. They are the Regent of East OKU, Regent of Musi Banyuasin, Regent of Lebak/Rangkas Bitung, Regent of Kediri, Mayor of Palu, Vice Regent of OKI, and Vice Regent of Kawarang. The representing Regents are the Regent of Solok, Regent of Tanah Datar, Regent of Serang, Regent of Sragen, Regent of South Lampung, Regent of Nganjuk, Regent of Pinrang, Regent of Wajo, Regent of Bone, Regent of Poliwalimandar, Regent of Muara Enim, Regent of Lahat, and regent of East Lombok.

The Regents/Mayors also agree to appoint Herman as Chairman of the Forum of Food Producing Region of all Indonesia which the completeness of its organizational structure and work program drawn up later.

Before closing the ceremony, Vice Chairman of DPD Laode Ida reminded that the Forum of Food Producing Region of all-Indonesia together with DPD struggling to change policies that are impartial to the farmers as a doer and agriculture as a sector. Alignments will overcome many difficulties in the agricultural sector involving infrastructure, land, capital, and human resources.

Specialized on human resources, he hoped that young generation has great enthusiasm for agriculture, including takes an education in the field of agriculture since in the high school to college. “If not, we will lose our young generation who understands about agriculture if the policy is not on the farmer side.

Before the declaration, they organized Seminar and Workshop of Food Producing Region of all-Indonesia that presented resources person Herman as a Regent, Hermanto Siregar (Professor of Bogor Agricultural University), Secretary of Directorate General of Food Crops Ministry of Agriculture Udhoro Kasih Anggoro, and former Vice Chairman of Ad Hoc Committee (PAH) II DPD Intsiawati Ayus.

The event attended by Chairman of Committee II DPD Bambang Susilo and several senators of Committee II, the Heads of Agriculture Offices in the province. Also representatives of Logistic Agency Public Company (Perusahaan Umum Badan Urusan Logistik), Food Security Agency, the National Agricultural Research and Development, Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Indonesia, Association of Indonesian Concord Farmers (HKTI), the Mainstay of National Contac Farmers (KTNA), Center of Socio-Economic Agricultural Research, Center of Food Crops Research, PT Pertani, PT Pusri, PT Petro Kimia Gresik, PT Pupuk Kujang, PT Pupuk Kaltim, and PT Bogasari.
