Chairman of DPD RI, Irman Gusman was given a trust having a title Datuak Rajo Nan Labiah by community of Kaum Nagari Guguak Tabek Saroja in Sub-district of IV Koto,  Agam Regency, the awarding of an honorary title was held in a large celebration or baralek gadang on the soccer field Jorong Nagari Guguak Tinggi, Sarojo, Bukittinggi, West Sumatera, Saturday (27/2).

The previous day, Irman visited his elderly mother’s house in Guguak Tinggi, because according to the procession datuak should get down of their mother house toward to the big event.

The inauguration of gala datuak to 47 figures is not only awards for them who were granted a title, but at the same time this baralek is also momentum rising for West Sumatera Community. Among the figures who were awarded gala datuak including West Sumatera best son who leads the high state institution, Irman Gusman and Tifatul Sembiring, Minister of Communication and Information Technology (Menkominfo) and Guspardi Gaus, Regent Candidate of Agam District. Irman Gusman deserved a title of gala pusako tinggi Datuak Rajo Nan Labiah from the Pisang Tribal. While Tifatul bagala Datuak Tumangguang from the Koto Tribal. Datuak or penghulu means leader in Minangkabau. Responsibility of a datuak or mamak in Minang proverb means, “Child on lap, Nephew Taught”.

After the inauguration, Irman Gusman stated “It is a great pride for him accepting a title of datuak rajo nan labiah or like datuak from all datuak because of nearly a century the datuak in this village experiencing an emptiness, therefore this datuak appointment in order to keep the existing traditional cultural values is not fade”.

Related to Minangkabau culture and customs, according to Irman, it is needed to do the revitalization values. The purpose is that the culture and customs can anticipate the ages movement which goes so fast. “Culture and customs are very important and strategic, because it will form a national character. So that, its values will not lose because of progress of the time,” said Irman.

The conferment procession was attended by important official among others the Governor of West Sumatera Maralis Rahman, Regent of Agam Aris Munandar, Main Commisioner of PT. TELKOM Tanri Abeng and hundreds of others important guests.
